COMPASSION / UNDERSTANDING / INTEGRITY
SEPIDEH IRVANI, Psy.D.
“It is our birthright to live with integrity, love and compassion.”
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”—Mother Teresa.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” –Lao Tzu.
Everyone encounters challenges and struggles in life, and each person needs help and guidance at
times—there is no shame or humiliation in seeking help, as even the strongest person amongst us
struggles and needs assistance and guidance now and then.
“No human experience is alien to me.”
If you have the motivation and courage to take the first step, then Dr. Sepideh Irvani is available to
help and guide you in reaching your goal(s).
By virtue of our human nature and free will, we are bound to “decide” and “communicate”—that is,
we cannot “not” decide and we cannot “not” communicate—and the how, what, where, when, why,
and with whom we decide and communicate is our choice and responsibility.  The ability and
willingness to assume responsibility is vital for promoting personal growth, change and well-being.

In choosing a psychologist, consider the following three essential questions:

1. Is the psychologist compassionate, understanding and accepting of you,
    your family and circumstances?
2. Do you have a trustworthy and respectful therapeutic working relationship
    with your psychologist?
3. Do you feel connected and comfortable with your psychologist?

Current research indicates the most important factor for successful outcomes in psychotherapy (talk
therapy) is the psychotherapeutic relationship between doctor and patient.  The quality of the
doctor/patient psychotherapeutic relationship and the manner of “being” of the psychologist is a
catalyst for change through a collaborative dialogical process.
“Emotions are expressed; positively or negatively, directly or indirectly,
consciously or unconsciously…”
